Word snob?

TOY-O-DA

In my world, that is the way one pronounces the name of the big car company named TOYOTA.

So far this week I have heard the following:

"TEA-O-TA" -- this from a European business correspondent on MSNBC (I think she is Swiss)

"TIE-O-DA" -- CNN reporter (he is definitely North American)

Considering the amount of trouble they are in, I'm sure there will be other opportunities for me to cringe at an odd pronounciation or two, or three.

It shouldn't bug me, but it does. But not as much as Bush's "nucular". Or a former co-worker calling the first meal of the day "breff-fass".

I think I'm a word snob. Is that a bad thing?

LOL at Breezy. I thought the same thing.

Ironically, I can be a word snob right here in your very blog.

I hate "breff-fass." I cringe when I hear that. And "birfday" and "pitcher" for "picture."

My co-worker says "TAH-LET" for toilet. I made her say it four times before I could figure out WTH she meant. Then I made her say it four more times just for the heck of it.

*glares at the smart ass*

I meant "word" snob and I will now go and edit it. :-)

Boo -- I cringe with breff-fass, birfday, and pitcher too!

Thank you Kim!

I will sit with the snobs. Nucular is probably my most cringeworthy. One because of the pronunciation but mostly because of who said it.

Sometimes I say Feb-yu-ary instead of Feb-ru-ary. I have no idea where that comes from, but I hear myself doing it quite often. And I say the "t" in often.

I hate aks for ask. And foilage for foliage! People who spade their pets always make me cringe too. I see the word "spaded" in pet ads all the time - drives me crazy.

Oldtimers for Alzheimer's kills me.

I am also guilty of Feb-you-ary, Swami.

Kim and Swami -- I'm guilty of Feb-yu-ary too, but I do know it's Feb-ru-ary.

Oldtimers really drives me nuts too, and I think it's because my Mom had Alzheimers.

Word snobs unite! :-)

I think I say TIE O DA. Swami, you must learn not to say the T in often!

OK, I discussed this with several people tonight. I DO say TOY O DA! My friends say TOY, too.
