Augie's secrets

Things you might not know about AugustGirl *

1. In September I was given the Commander's Award for Civilian Service from the activity I am assigned to at work. It's given by the Department of Defense to civilian employees. Not a lot of people receive it -- you get a medal and a certificate (which both are now professionally framed and hanging in the house). I have to say (very humbly) it's a pretty big deal. I didn't tell any of you because it was just so bittersweet. My father would have been so proud and would have just grinned for days and days. If only I could have received it before he died.

2. Most super sweet, sappy commericals make me cry. I'm a huge crybaby. If you cry, I cry. If the lady on the Kleenex commerical cries, I cry. It's pretty embarassing.

3. It's becoming very clear that I am developing arthritis in my hands. Both my Mom and maternal Grandmother had it. (no old jokes, please)

4. I am very brand loyal. It takes a lot for me to switch brands after I find something I like. Usually if I do buy something new (for whatever reason: coupon, recommendation, etc) I almost always switch back. Some favorites: Ford, Tide, Kleenex, Cottonelle, Glad Forceflex, Pilot P-500 pens, Sharpie markers, Tom's of Maine toothpaste

5. I am lactose intolerate.

6. My second toes are longer than the big toe. It has a name: "Morton's toe".

7. My arms are my favorite part of my body.

8. In 2003 my doctor thought I had Hodgkin's Disease, so they biopsied a lymph node on my neck. No cancer, but now I have an almost 2 inch long scar on my neck.

9. I collect ceramic teapots; however I'm not much of a tea drinker. I prefer coffee.

10. I want to retire to a beach house somewhere far away from snow and cold (this probably doesn't suprise anyone of you).

Oh Augie. *big hugs* I know your Dad is grinning at you.

I won't call you old for the hand arthritis, I'm afraid I'm going to get it. My sis(who is younger than me) says she has it. My Mom and my Grandma have it very bad. I just blame my hand soreness on being addicted to message boards. *grin*

Thank you, Breezy. I know he is proud of me, but it just would have been so wonderful to have received it with him there with me.

Congratulations on the big award!
Your parents are with you in spirit. You are what you are because of them.

I cried and cried today, watching Tom Brokaw report on the Newfoundland city of Gander. On Sept 11, 2001, the city of 10,000 took in 6000 airline passengers from 30 jumbo jets, diverted to their city. It was amazing and I bawled through the whole story.

I have arthritis, too. We'll be in a special "A" club.

I'm not very brand loyal. The second toe on one foot is longer than the big toe, but only due to an operation on my big toe which made it shorter. I hate it. I always stub the second toe because it sticks out.

I'd like to retire next door to you.

That's some juicy gossip! Congrats on the award-it does sound like a big deal!

I am not all that brand loyal. I have tried other trashbags, and like you, go back to the Forceflex. They aren't perfect, but they are better than most. Some consumer reporty type person tried to tell me Target brand was just as good. They weren't.

Puffy, I did not that. You've taught me something new for the day.

I didn't know about Kohl's cosmetic brands either. thanks, Puffy!

And thanks to all for your kind words and encouragement.

I'll make sure my retirement beach house has at the least a nice guest house, if not several. (a girl can dream!)

I got interrupted in my comment. I too am brand loyal - specifically in companies I use to buy certain things. And especially when these things relate to work.

I had a woman pull up yesterday and waltz into my door - right past the "No Soliciting" sign.

I gave her about 10 seconds and explained that I wasn't interested. She insisted that I should be. She asked me what I paid for copy paper, and I told her $29 per case for Hammermill Bond. She tried to find me a better deal in her catalog, but couldn't - even though they are the "warehouse" for Staples. *eyeroll*

I kindly explained to her that, even if she could find me cheaper paper, I wasn't interested. I want my paper that specifically has "Hammermill Bond" on it. I want to go to my desk, click my button and order my specific paper. I didn't want to deal with her this week and then deal with someone else next week. I told her that I wouldn't even leave Michael Scott at $50 per case for her.

I think she finally got the point.

Yay for being awarded. I'm very proud of you and I know your Dad is proud of you, too.
I too am a brand ho.
You could move to California when you retire. I mean, you're old enough that you are pretty close to retiring, right? (hey, you said no old jokes because of the arthritis. This had nothing to do with arthritis)
We have sun and beaches and no snow. Move here!!!!!

1. Congratulations! Like Puffy said - your parents are always with you in spirit.

2. Really? You cry at commercials? There is not much that makes me cry anymore. It has to be something hugely major. Or at least displaced major, lol.

3. My mom had arthritis in her hands. I thought I was getting it once too. but it went away after a few months.

4. My brand loyalties are very specific. I hate when products change their packaging or 'update' for no reason because then I don't know if they are still the exact same thing or not. I want the exact thing I want!

5. Is it really bad? Do you get sick? Or just burpy & stuff?

6. Morton?

7. I don't have favorite parts anymore. They have all betrayed me - the bltches.

8. That is one huge biopsy! Sheesh!

9. And I collect china teacups. Let's have a Tea Party for all our bloggy peeps!

10. Me too but we'll probably stay here because it looks like my 2nd & 3rd child (Tom's & my 2 kids) will always be here.

Swami -- It's really embarrasing how weepy I get, and have always been that way.

I hate it when they change packaging, formulas, or anything. How dare they!!!! (do not get me started about "new Coke" ---*huff*)

My lactose intolerance just makes me more burpy and gassy if I don't take Lactaid. If I eat dairy, I take a Lactaid. And I love my dairy.

Morton is the first one who described the toe thingy. I have no clue who he is (or was).

So far my arms haven't betrayed me, but my ass and thighs certainly have. Damn them!!!

Tell me about it! If anyone notices my scar I tell them I was in a bar fight. *snort*

A tea party sounds like a fantastic idea!

No kids to keep me here, but the job is too good for me to look elsewhere. Hopefully when I retire I'll head south. The 'when' is the big question.
