Spring! Part 2

These are the last of the daffodils. The flower heads are small compared to the daffodils most people plant. They have emerged from a group of bigger bulbs I planted next to the back deck. I love their lemon/limey color (which doesn't present very well here, but they are truly gorgeous little flowers).

The redbud. It is sitting in between the magnolias and a Colorado blue spruce with two big ole oaks right behind it. I LOVE this tree, but I'm not sure why they call it a redbud. It's definitely more of a purplebud. See the little blurb of yellow in the lower right? Those are tulips, and to the right of them should be a sea of pink tulips. Sadly, the deer got to the pink tulips before the could bloom.

Hostas! Yay for hostas! They survive anything, they grow like gangbusters, and best of all the deer don't eat the leaves (but they do eat the blooms in the summer, but I love the hosta leaves better than the hosta flowers). I love hostas.

This view is from the house, looking down on a bed of tulips. I need to replant the bed this fall (the moles ate all the purple and most of the yellow tulips I planted so that explains the bare and scraggly spots). The main reason I took this picture is to show the new solar lights I just got. They are mission style in cooper. I love them! If you click on the picture you can see them a little better.

I'm soooo jealous of your yard and your garden. I have a patio. Not much I can do with a patio. *pout*
I really like that redbud tree. I kept trying to adjust the color on my computer because I thought the red was off. But then I read again and got that it is called red but is really purple. Blonde moment.

I promise to post pictures of the magnolias once they bloom.

I also need to add a picture of the dogwood. It's in full bloom and just lovely, but it's raining right now so I'm staying inside.

Augie doesn't get her hair wet for anything, including getting pictures. :-)

*deep happy sigh* Magnolias. *grin*

I swear when we buy a real house with a real yard, I am planting magnolia trees. We have one here in the common ground area, but it's not mine all mine.

You have a beautiful yard and surroundings! I was glad to see your hosta, because Boo mentioned hostas on her blog and I didn't know what they were.

I love them all! I never have much luck with tulips, like you said, moles and rabbits keep getting the blooms. But I do love them.

Your magnolia's aren't blooming yet? Ours are almost done here. Weird since we are more north than you!

Dont' you love dogwoods! I love the next phase, azaleas and rhododendrums!

Aombs -- the magnolias we have here are summer blooming. I don't think I've ever seen a spring blooming magnolia.

Puffy -- hostas are awesome. They come in all shades of green, some striped, some solid, such a variety. They are definitely shade loving plants. The ones I have are planted on the north side of the house.

Your gardens are beautiful, Augie! I am a huge fan of hosta. I have about 40 cultivars. My favorites are Chinese Sunrise, Montana aureo-marginata, Krossa Regal and Plantaginea.

Have you seen the new 'Fireworks' hybrid? It is beautifully variegated and has an upright growth habit. I will be looking for that hosta this spring! I also want to try the new Ghost Fern.

Your yard is gorgeous. I so want your yard. I just cannot get into planting my yard this spring. Maybe it's because we've talked a bit of selling this place, maybe my heart just isn't in it, maybe I just can't figure out what to do with it all, and maybe it's because I'm not sure my existing flower beds are staying where they are.
*shrug*
You must be so proud of your yard!

Yay for hostas! I love them too. I won't be gardening this year either. Too much yardwork to do (leveling and whatnot). Plus I need to know if the gas company is going to buy us out before I make this house too much more my own.

I will just live vicariously through the pictures of your beautiful yard again this year. *grin* *smooch*

Our daffodils were here and gone very quickly this year. It really feels like they were only around for a week or so.

Augie, you have a most beautiful yard. I am so jealous. One day, I will get there. But I think I'm going to have to cheat and hire someone to start it.

Magnolias are so beautiful. Can't wait to see your pictures.

I am just started Dbf's landscaping. We moved here 1 year ago.

I love Dogwood trees. We're either moving the one from my house or buying a new one.

You have a very, very nice landscaping.

GARDENING QUESTION:
I need to move some tulip bulbs...when is the best time?

Hi everyone! Thanks for the compliments. If you all lived close by I'd put bouquets on all your doorsteps.

Bad Swami for suggesting more hostas! :-)

Kim, you should move and replant tulip bulbs in the fall.

Thank you, Augie. Now I must actually remember to do it. Oh well, my MIL gave me calla lily bulbs & I'll need to dig them up in the fall, so one more thing to add to my list.

Absolutely loverly! My mom would love visiting your garden.

The flowers of my orange japanese lillies are just now peeking out and the yellow day lillies will follow any day now.

I got rid of my hostas. They were overtaking my garden. I didn't realize how fast they grew. I didn't plant them in the right place. Yeah, I know you can relocate them and split them but then I'd have to deal with possible worms *EEK*

However, the hostas are quite beautiful. They last for a couple of months then it gets just too dern hot down here and they start to wilt and get mushy. Not a pretty sight.
